Remember the taste of grandma’s home cooking and how she’d slave over the hot stove lovingly making her entire meal from scratch? It’s a memory many, if not most of us share. The smell of homemade rolls, the taste of crispy fried chicken, and those delicious mashed potatoes and gravy! Even if your grandma is no longer with you, you can still enjoy the taste of her old-fashioned southern home cooking. Just pay a visit to Granny’s Restaurant in Branson, Missouri, and you’re sure to be reminded of what a memorable experience grandma’s cooking really was.
On our first visit to Granny’s Restaurant, we were faced with the decision of whether to order from the menu or try the buffet, which had items ranging from country fried chicken to boiled shrimp. We decided to go with the menu. My husband ordered chicken fried steak with corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and an iced tea. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and an iced tea. At first I hesitated at ordering green beans, because I don’t like the way most restaurants serve them (flat and flavorless). I asked the waitress if they were seasoned with bacon, hoping that they were, and she advised me yes, that they were just like grandma used to make. Along with our meal came made-from-scratch yeast rolls, but with an interesting twist; they were shaped just like cinnamon rolls and served in a metal bucket for added country flair. The rolls were delicious and were just a preview of how the rest of the meal would taste. My fried chicken was so good, that I’m getting hungry again now just thinking about it. My husband said the chicken fried steak was some of the best he’s ever had, and he should know; he orders chicken fried steak at almost every country-cooking establishment we visit. The mashed potatoes, and especially the gravy, were exceptional. In fact, the gravy had to be the best gravy we’ve ever tasted (after our grandmas’ of course). Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Granny’s Restaurant and look forward to visiting again. The service was good and the staff was friendly. The atmosphere was pleasant and fairly quite. The food we ordered was not only excellent, but the portions were generous for the price and were therefore a good value. Our bill with tax and tip was less than $20. We left feeling satisfied with no room for dessert. I would definitely recommend Granny’s Restaurant if you’re visiting Branson and are in the mood for some good country-cooking. |
